Meanwhile, the American-led coalition is continuing its assault of Mosul, Iraq. Their television screens keep showing just how hard the ISIS terrorists are fighting back using snipers and suicide bombers. There is progress, though at a high price. The Iraqi army already took back control of Mosul airport, the capital's main electrical station the main government building and the police headquarters. Iraqi authorities claim that the entire city will be free soon.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that 40,000 residents have left Mosul in the past week. Militants are using civilians as human shields. Hence the civilian casualties. According to the Pentagon, during the operation, 220 people died in Iraq due to airstrikes by the American-led coalition. Independent sources say it's 10 times that number.
"Military Times" describes it like this: "Independent monitoring organizations put the number of civilian casualties much higher. Airwars, an independent monitoring group based in London estimates the minimum number of civilian casualties caused by airstrike to be at least 2,463". This number is not mentioned by the mainstream media in the west. Just like it says nothing about the humanitarian disaster in Mosul. But, when it came to the so-called horrors of freeing Aleppo, they were all over the subject. The double standards are obvious here. Anyway, just to give you an idea of the situation in Mosul...
On Thursday, the Iraqi ambassador in Moscow, Haidar Hadi, announced that only 15% of Mosul is currently under ISIS control. The battle has been going on since October and it is still under way.
